Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

If I become a volunteer with the North Central Florida Chapter, am I eligible to participate in large disaster relief operations?
Eligibility for deployment to national and/or local disaster relief operations is a part of Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) system. There are over 30 jobs within the DSHR system. So depending on your skills, talents, and areas of interest, one or more of these jobs might be just right for you.
I volunteered with a Red Cross chapter in another state and recently moved to the North Central Florida Area. How do I become a volunteer with the North Central Florida Chapter?
If you have been an active volunteer with another chapter, please contact the North Central Florida Chapter volunteer management team at Volunteer@redcrossncfc.org or call 352-376-4669. You will be asked to complete a local application and a request to transfer your record from your former chapter.
I live in a small community and there is no Red Cross office near me. Can I still become a volunteer?
Absolutely! The North Central Florida Chapter serves Alachua, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, and Suwannee counties. Although there may not be a physical Red Cross office in your location, volunteers do hold meetings locally. Once you have completed the application process, you will be contacted by a local representative to discuss the opportunities available in your community.
I belong to a group that would like to volunteer together. What should we do?
Group opportunities may vary. Please contact the Volunteer Management Team at Volunteer@redcrossncfc.org. Include your name and contact information, the name of your group and link to your organization's website (if you have one), and what service your group is interested in providing.
Does the American Red Cross and North Central Florida Chapter conduct background checks on volunteers?
Yes. The Red Cross believes that in order to maintain the trust of the American people and provide them with the best quality service, Red Cross employees and volunteers must undergo background checks.
I am under 18 years of age. May I volunteer with the American Red Cross?
Although the American Red Cross does have youth programs all over the country, our chapter does not currently have any active youth programs for under 18 years of age.
