Volunteer
Volunteers are the back bone of the North Central Chapter. This year alone, volunteers donated thousands of hours, helping disaster victims, teaching classes and performing any number of other functions.
The North Central Florida Chapter area includes the counties of: Alachua, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy & Suwannee.
What makes a Red Cross Volunteer different?- The Board of Governors of the American Red Cross is entirely a volunteer group.
- Volunteers hold important management positions within the organization.
- In many cases, employees report to volunteers.
- Volunteers and employees are considered to be partners in implementing the mission and programs with each having complementary roles to play.
- It is essential to the proper operation of this relationship that each partner understands and respects the needs and abilities of others.
- The Red Cross actively engages volunteers, such as nurses, in all positions.
- In the Red Cross, there is approximately one employee for every 36 volunteers.
- Volunteers make up approximately 96% of the workforce.
- Respond to disasters locally or nationally
- Educate the community on safety and disaster preparedness issues
- Provide office support
- Teach health and safety classes like First Aid and CPR
- Help during special events such as telethons
